How We Review a Renovation Quotation

What happens when you send us a quotation, what we look for, and what we don't do.

1. What you send us

You can cover up NRIC numbers, bank details and anything else that isn't needed. Only the consultant advising you reads what you send. See our Privacy Policy.

2. The 6 things we check

CheckWhat we look at
1. ScopeDoes the quote cover everything you asked for, room by room? We list what's missing, such as electrical works, waterproofing, doors, debris disposal or cleaning.
2. ClarityDoes each line say what you're getting: quantity, size, material and brand? We flag lump sums, “TBC” items and allowances that could raise the price later.
3. PricesWhich lines look unusually high or low, based on our experience, and what might explain it. A very low price can be a warning sign too.
4. PaymentsHow much is paid before work starts, whether payments follow finished stages, and how much is kept until handover.
5. TermsStart and completion dates, how changes are priced and approved, warranty, whether GST is stated, how long the quote is valid, and who applies for permits.
6. The firmWhether it's on HDB's Directory of Renovation Contractors, its ACRA record, and whether it's CaseTrust-accredited. We help you check; we don't rate firms.

If you have more than one quote, we line them up against the same scope so you compare like with like, not just the totals.

3. What you get back

See what this looks like in our sample report.

4. What we don't do

5. Fee and timing

A quotation review is an add-on. WhatsApp us with your property type and how many quotes you have, and we'll confirm the fee and when you'll get your notes before we start. Up to 2 quotations can also be discussed during a first session.

FAQ

Can you tell me if my renovation quote is fairly priced?

We can tell you which lines look unusually high or low based on our experience, and why prices can differ. We don't give a price valuation or use a price database. The most reliable check is comparing the same scope across two or three quotes, and we show you how.

Do you review renovation contracts?

We point out practical risks in the terms, such as payment stages, dates, variation orders and warranty. We're not lawyers, so for legal questions about a contract, please consult a lawyer.

Will my ID know that I sent you their quote?

No. We don't contact your ID or share your quotation with anyone unless you ask us to. See our Privacy Policy.

Is a quotation review included in the first session?

Up to 2 quotations can be discussed during a session. A written, line-by-line quotation review is an add-on, and we confirm the fee before we start.

How many quotes should I get before I sign?

Two or three quotes for the same scope is usually enough to compare prices and spot missing items.
