A typical full renovation, week by week

This is a typical plan for a full HDB resale renovation based on industry experience. Your timeline will depend on the scope, the ID's workload, material lead times and public holidays.

WhenWhat happens
Weeks 1–3Design, 3D drawings, material selection
Week 3–4HDB renovation permit (if your works need one)
Week 4–5Hacking and demolition
Weeks 5–7Plumbing, electrical and tiling
Weeks 7–10Carpentry fabrication
Weeks 10–12Painting, flooring, installation, cleaning and handover
Carpentry is fabricated off-site after measurements are taken, so delays in earlier stages push everything after them.

FAQ

How long does an HDB renovation take?

A typical full resale renovation takes around 10–12 weeks from design to handover. Smaller scopes can be faster; big layout changes take longer.

Can renovation be done on Saturdays?

General works are allowed 9am–6pm on Saturdays. Noisy works like hacking are only allowed 9am–5pm on weekdays. No works on Sundays and public holidays.

Can I hack my BTO toilet tiles?

Not in the first 3 years. HDB doesn't allow removing wall or floor finishes in toilets during that period, to protect the waterproofing. You can overlay new tiles instead.
